  • they sidelined working-class concerns, lost crucial voters,

Yep that right there is probably why they lost, instead of having a solid alternative to Trump, they moved right to reel in some Trump voters, and people didn’t see an alternative worth voting for.
This is the problem with 2 party systems. There simply wasn’t an option on the left for people who wanted to change the status quo.

I really feel for Americans that have maintained their humanity, because that is not something that has any value for the narcissistic administration USA has now, and it’s just about completely gone from the entire Republican party.

Nazi salutes at inauguration! Really? WTF has USA become?

  • Donald Trump is ahead of President Biden by six percentage points among likely voters in a new national survey.

USA has done phenomenally well on the economy lately, that used to count for something, but apparently not so much anymore.
A lot of Americans are planning to vote for the ills of USA to get worse for some reason. They complain average people are not doing well, and then they plan to vote for the guy who is all in for the 1% over everything else? The guy who will gladly dismantle every shred of workers rights, from the party who is absolutely fine with full time work that doesn’t even earn a living wage! Who will do absolutely nothing to make things better for working people, but everything he can to cut taxes for the rich.

Is it time to sell if you have American stock?
It seems to me to be pretty risky now. Could this end in a civil war over there?

Ah well USA will get the government they elect, maybe a 2nd term with Trump will make some people wake up. But I doubt it, just look at WW2 Germany, the Nazi regime had to be toppled from outside, but there is nobody to do that with USA.

So if Trump wins, I will not be surprised if we get decades of fascist dictatorship in USA.
If things are not looking better when we reach August, I will sell my American stock, and I think everybody who doesn’t is naive in thinking a new term with Trump will end well.

when fascism comes to America it will be “wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.”

  • Buffalox@lemmy.worldtoLinux@lemmy.mlWhy do you still hate Windows?

Hate is a strong word, indifferent is more the word I’d use.
And I’m indeifferent because I have used (GNU)Linux as my main desktop OS since 2005, and (GNU)Linux exclusively for the past 15 years. And now even games run fine on Linux, so to me it’s all benefits now.
So it’s just that Windows and everything Microsoft is irrelevant now, except for a classic game I still play occasionally with my wife.

Obviously the proprietary nature with all the problems that includes, was what motivated me to shift originally, and it is also the reason I don’t even want to dual boot Windows, not if it was free as in beer either.

    1. The joy of “figuring it out”

No absolutely not, I used to be an IT consultant, but like most people I like things to just work, and Linux has done that for many years now.
I do however like the freedom, and that I am not prevented from configuring my system like I want to. I remember Windows having the most ridiculous mechanisms to prevent me from for instance replacing something as banal as notepad as default/system text editor. Absolutely bullocks behavior by Microsoft IMO. I am very happy to have a system where I decide, and not some company that wants to lock me into their ecosystem.

PS: I have never tried anything Windows beyond Windows XP. But boy did Vista and Windows 8 convince me that I did the right thing switching to (GNU)Linux. Almost everybody I know were absolutely pissed about both.

Windows Vista was the most golden opportunity to buy expensive hardware for cheap, because it didn’t have drivers for Vista. Laughing my ass off about people who claim hardware lacks drivers for Linux, when it’s actually worse on Windows with every new release.

  • People who follow infowars are already radicalized, and will say any moderate is polarizing. They want a Fuhrer, they want to exterminate LGBT and colored people. Their opinion is irrelevant, because there is no talking sense to those people. Just see how the MAGA people threw a fit, because their house leader “compromised” after 8 months of negotiating, and getting everything they asked for!!!
They are beyond reach, and they are the ones polarizing, not rational sensible people like AOC, that actually tries to make life better for most people.

If not only wanting to do things for the rich, the white and Christians, makes you polarizing, then a polarizing candidate is the only reasonable option.
