As a “gamer” and game developer, this is sound advice.

I guess it could be construed as racist when it’s literally “master/slave”. But I have never seen it as a normalization of slavery because there usually is no value attached to the terms, it’s just describing the relation between them. And I don’t think acknowledging that a slave generally doesn’t have much say in doing what their master tells them is racist in itself or endorsing/normalizing slavery.
But also, I am white, and there are other terms we can use that can describe this kind of relation just fine, so, whatever. I just get mildly annoyed when some stuff that was working perfectly fine gets deprecated just to change these terms and I have to adapt to it.
Meh. Imo anyone comparing an integer to a float and not expecting one of them to be implicitly casted to the other’s type will create that issue for themselves when doing the same thing with an explicit cast.
Agreed. But the less experienced programmers I know are surprisingly naive about this.
That makes sense, but then you’d just have people converting the int to a float manually and run into the exact same issues.
Yeah they have some cool gadgets and designs, but this kind of shit + the software side has always kept me away from the brand
The UI looks more “slick”, and it is censored, so your portfolio or whatever you want to showcase isn’t displayed alongside some MLP porn or pregnant Sonic comics. Which doesn’t mean there isn’t tons of “artistic nudity” on the site though, last time I checked.
I’m not an artist myself but I know the artists in my industry (videogames) love to use it
I’d argue all the humans left when artstation became big. All my artists friends used to upload their (non porn) work to deviantart before artstation was popular. But banning the porn was the first nail in the coffin for sure.
Yeah the comment you replied to is hyperbolic for sure, but even as a cat person I can see where they’re coming from. At the very least a lot of cat owners have a hard time recognizing the (iirc, scientifically proven) fact that the average outdoors cat kills a lot more small wildlife than they would ever require to survive, and by these numbers, it doesn’t take a ton of them to have a noticeable impact on an ecosystem, especially if you take into account the fact that they usually easily outnumber their natural predators since they are such a popular pet.
Cats that are allowed to go outside are an absolute menace to small wildlife. They hunt and kill to play, so no matter how well fed they are they will still do it, and they are quite good at it. This is why only indoors cats are allowed on some islands with a fragile ecosystem
I have only used it for a little more than a day so far, but I’m already in love with it because it basically required 0 tinkering to get my Nvidia GPU to work, and the few games I have tried have been running almost flawlessly.
I’m not exactly the age or attractiveness that most people expect in a touring musician, either.
Just start making IDM. Looking weird and/or unattractive seems to be a requirement (and, don’t get me wrong, I’m here for it)
Spotify’s model is doomed to fail over time.
This right here. At the very least, unless they are not beholden to shareholders, it will eventually reach market saturation and will have to cut artists’ share, hike prices up, or add more paywalls to keep the line going up
Good thing that the existence of a GUI for a program doesn’t prevent you from using its CLI version then !
even if you don’t know for sure that the machine is right, you know statistically that it’s fine. So you go for it.
This kind of shit is why I have zero faith in the fact that AI will be used responsibly in basically any field. Mfs are already using it to avoid taking responsibility for potential war crimes ffs.
I’m considering it even more seriously right now. I had my eyes set on Fedora, but apparently I shouldn’t, because they are ditching official support for X11, and I need it because I have an Nvidia GPU ? I was also looking at pop OS, but I also saw people recommending against Ubuntu on Lemmy, I don’t remember why though. Do you have a recommendation ?
Windows 11 (and how much I like my experience with the Steam deck, if I’m being honest) has me seriously reconsidering switching to Linux for my gaming desktop
Yeah, I figured this stuff was way above my biology knowledge. I guess the real question is “what actually makes a subspecies unable to have fertile offspring with another subspecies?”
And I suspect the answer is a biology paper with a 3 digits number of pages
Isn’t it possible that the “new” bird is functionally identical to the extinct one, but achieves this through different genetic mutations ? In that case, would the new bird still be able to breed with the extinct one ?
The way I see it, it’s a failing state. Some institutions are still working “properly” so to speak. Some are going to shit, and some are already fucked.
