At least in the EU USB-C is only the standard by 2nd degree, the actual mandatory connector is whatever connector the industry consortium decides on. For now it just happens to be USB-C

The bust won’t be because it’s not profitable to use AI but because the companies selling the service cannot do so at rates which are both profitable and actually marketable. Case in point: OpenAI has not made a single cent of profit so far (or at least not reported a profit). The way AI is currently shoved in everywhere is not sustainable because the cost of running an AI model cannot be recuperated by most of these new platforms.

My Point is more that their revenue stream will temporarily take a giant hit during that, when everyone is busy going bankrupt the few AI companies that make a profit with it have better things to do than buy new Accelerators right that instant.

Is AI useful? Maybe. But is it profitable? AI will go the same way .com did: there will be a massive crash and at the end of that you’ll see who actually had their pants on

You know the more I think about this the better this change seems to me. The original X670 and X670E distinctions were already pretty useless if I recall correctly and by basically moving up the B650E spec to X870 they removed that useless spec. Only thing left open for question is what happens with the gap now, are they just going to pull the entire stack up or will there simply be no B850E? Also granted I’d rather have seen a larger improvement from the X670 and X670E spec than them putting a previous mid-range chip into the high-end but at least there is some form of sensible difference between X870 and X870E, albeit the differences to the previous gen are suffering a bit from this weird diagonal upgrade.

However I feel like they’re watering down the meaning of their chipsets. The regular old X870 chipsets has the exact same PCIe lane spec as B650E which just seems like a weird downgrade in an upgrade to me. On one hand the chipset has more PCIe 5 lanes than X670 but with it having 8 less lanes in total I think X670 would still be the more attractive option in a lot of cases. A similar problem with X870E imo where the only distinguishing factor from X670E is the USB4 support, like seriously this is not going to be competitive. People will just pick up an X670E motherboard for cheaper.

Mandatory USB4 is an up but I feel like the motherboard manufacturers and vendors are not happy at all with these specifications, it will make it extremely difficult to up-sell customers to the new and “better” chipsets

I only suggest Linux if they complain about Windows. The only thing gushing about Linux unprompted and unwanted does is sour the waters.

And also double check whether their use case actually works on Linux, all the improvements in recent years are nice but there are still enough edge cases that checking beforehand is a good idea

I van assure you at the very least the part where the coil is situated has no metal backplate. While technically possible to charge wirelessly with a metal back the efficiency of the charging would drop into hell. Unless absolutely not otherwise doable it’s better avoided, not least of all because the back would heat up immensenly when using charging speeds that are remotely useful
