PXE, or network boot. It is basically never used (and rarely enabled, if ever, by default) by the individual, but can be helpful in, for example, a large scale OS deployment. Say IT has to get their corporate image version of Windows 10/11 installed on 30 new laptops. They could write a ton of flash drives, but it’d be easier to just host a PXE boot server and every laptop just listen to them.

Yeah, this straight up happened to a dude I was rather fond of. We were working in desktop support for a big fintech company, and he used his not-quite-admin privileges to bypass the bootlock on the laptops for personal use. I warned him that it was a bad idea, he brushed it off. Was gone by the next week.

I’ve been seeing both recently. I’ve opted to err on the same side and just make it clear when I’m talking about spinning rust versus solid state.

It’s worth mentioning that HDMI CEC is spotty on Kodi. I’ve had no problem with it on a Pi or CCwGTV, but if you try to convert a desktop or laptop into a media center PC, chances are the HDMI output won’t do CEC, and you’ll need an adapter (further reading: https://kodi.wiki/view/CEC#CEC-capable_HTPCs)
