Back in the late 80’s, my dad was a trucker, hauling asphalt. Pulled into the depot on a Friday night expecting to go home (he was already over hours and cooking the log book). Dispatcher told him to take another load out. Dad pointed at the five fresh drivers playing poker around a table, told the dispatcher to send one of them.

Monday morning, they fired him, and told him why, straight to his face and the voice recorder sitting in his pocket.

According to OSHA and Dad’s lawyer, it was an open and shut case. While the case was pending, the company blackballed Dad from the trucking industry. Being in St. Lawrence County of Upstate NY, he wasn’t able to find a job elsewhere either. They buried us in paperwork, delayed the court case, and starved us out. Two years later, Dad settled. After the lawyer, he got a measely $12k.

Trump and the judiciary are going to do the same damn thing to this country. Doesn’t matter whether he’s guilty. They’re gonna delay and stall and bury us in paperwork until we starve and settle for table scraps.

Protests typically do not involve attempting to bash in interior windows, gaining access beyond barricaded doors, and armed officers having to resort to lethal measures to stop allegedly protestors.

The legal system can piss on a person and tell them it’s raining, and you’d be willing to drink it.

I’d argue for drop that extends across the width of the lane, or both. Couple that with a system that can penetrate heavy rain, and two truck drivers might have lived through a washout of Interstate 88 in Central N a few years back. They didn’t have much of a chance back then.

You’re right, in that my truck is not everything. It’s a significant point of failure to my ability to maintain my house and life. You can doubt all you want. Do the math: I’m burning 40-80 of wood pellets every day. That’s an 800 lbs load every 10 to 20 days.

Your answer is to replace my Baja & Tacoma with an Outback and trailer. With the cost of everything rising, you want me to sell off my existing vehicles (with their value dropping, as nobody without a work permit can operate them), and replace them… Or hire out a general contractor for all the work I’ve been doing myself.

FYI: That Baja of mine is tow rated for 2,400 lbs.
